The most important facts at a glance
Tau Pan features nine eco-friendly tents with private bathrooms, including a family tent, built on elevated decks offering spectacular views over the vast plains of the Central Kalahari Game Reserve. Each tent is equipped with a living area, indoor and outdoor showers, double vanity sinks, an open wardrobe, a king-size bed, and a desk.
The camp's main area, which includes a bar, lounge, souvenir shop, and dining area, revolves around a fire pit, providing an ideal spot for wildlife observation. Guests can also use a telescope here to gaze at the incredible southern African night sky.
In such a remote area as the Kalahari Desert, there is minimal to no light pollution, making stargazing a magnificent experience incomparable to many other places on Earth. To allow guests to enjoy an unobstructed view of the African night sky and fall asleep enveloped in its beauty, Tau Pan also features a Sky Bed, built on a wooden platform on the eastern side of the camp. The sleeping deck includes a double bed, a sink, and a toilet. A night in the star bed—a truly unforgettable experience!

The best time to travel

As magical as the surrounding Kalahari landscape appears, so too is the local wildlife. The name of the camp reveals more about the region's fauna. "Tau" is Setswana for "lion" –, it occasionally happens that the iconic black-maned Kalahari lions pay a visit to the camp. Other species found in the Kalahari include numerous antelope such as oryx, wildebeest, and springbok, jackals, the red-crested Korhaan, and the rare brown hyena.
