Just an hour and a half's drive from Maun, Meno A Kwena is also a great option for self-drivers. With refreshing and stylishly simple design, the camp impresses with its connection to nature. This is evident in sustainable construction and maintenance practices as well as the spectacular views of the wildlife-rich Boteti and morning elephant wake-up calls.
The ten classic guest tents perched on a cliff overlooking the river offer some of the best "armchair" wildlife sightings – directly from the deck chair on your own veranda. All tents feature fully equipped bathrooms. There are also two interconnected family units.
The central lounge and dining area are decorated in explorer style with books, paintings, artifacts from bygone eras, and a carved crocodile. And for good reason, as Meno a Kwena literally translates to "teeth of the crocodile". It's not always easy to tear yourself away from the unique view of the wildlife-rich river bends from your tent or the refreshing swimming pool. But don't miss out on a boat trip on the Boteti or a game drive through the impressive Makgadikgadi Pans National Park offered by Meno A Kwena. Together with your fantastic guide, you'll encounter desert-adapted animals not found anywhere else in Botswana, from special antelopes to fascinating desert elephants.
Thundering hooves announce the second-largest migration in Africa, an incredible spectacle of about 30,000 zebras and wildebeests making their way across the Makgadikgadi Pans together with a range of other hoofed animals.
As the pans dry up from April, the zebras end their journey at the flowing Boteti. Close on their heels are the predators: jackals, leopards, wild dogs, cheetahs, and the famous black-maned lions, all using the surrounding bushes for cover.
On the other hand, cultural insights are provided by walks with the San Bushmen. Together with descendants of this ancient hunter-gatherer people, you venture into the Makgadikgadi wilderness and learn more about the impressive lifestyle adapted to the harsh conditions of the desert.
