Macatoo guests are accommodated in one of eight large, airy, and elegantly furnished tents, seamlessly blending into their natural surroundings while promising plenty of luxury and comfort. Each tent is elevated on a spacious platform, offering picturesque views of the expansive floodplain in front of the camp. The honeymoon tent features an additional deck for private dinners and an elevated double bathtub overlooking the floodplain. The family and group suite, on the other hand, consists of two tents connected by an elevated walkway and an above-ground viewing platform, providing easy access for parents, children, and friends.
Sun loungers on the swimming pool deck invite guests to read and relax in the sun. Since the deck also offers a wonderful view of the vast floodplain, it is the perfect spot for spectacular bird and wildlife sightings. Elephants and giraffes often come close to the deck, and occasionally passing troops of baboons use the pool as a quick refreshment stop.
Well-lit pathways connect the communal tent with the dining deck, pool, and guest accommodations. The fire pit is a popular gathering spot for communal dining, coffee breaks, and evening exchanges of bush stories. Additionally, just a few minutes' drive away, Macatoo boasts a spacious tree platform promising unforgettable meals and even overnight stays under Africa's magical starry sky.

The best time to travel
The Okavango Delta is home to a variety of large mammals and more than 380 bird species. Each species has its preferred habitat, ranging from seasonal floodplains, channels, and palm islands to the drier, wooded Kalahari sand areas.
Huge elephant populations roam the area together with large herds of buffalo. While species such as lechwe, sitatunga, and hippos inhabit the floodplains, lagoons, and channels, species like zebra, impala, wildebeest, and giraffe are often found in the sandy areas. Common sightings include warthog, tsessebe, and kudu, and carnivores are regularly spotted. In addition to the most common species, such as lion and spotted hyena, leopards also appear regularly. Wild dog packs are also regularly sighted near Macatoo. Although the camp focuses on horseback tours, boat trips, mokoro trips, game drives in open vehicles are also offered.
The annual flooding of the Macatoo area makes large parts of the delta inaccessible to vehicles, making horses the optimal, natural, and most exciting mode of transportation. Many say there is no better way to experience the vastness and wildlife of the Okavango Delta than on horseback. The pace of riding alternates between fast and exhilarating gallops, passing by giraffes, zebras, and antelopes, over land and through water. Together with their experienced guide, guests silently approach larger game such as buffalo and elephants on their quadrupeds, taking plenty of time to enjoy some of the best bird watching in the world.
To ensure a pleasant and safe riding adventure for all, riders must be fit and confident riding in all gaits. Days in the saddle can be long with fluctuating daytime temperatures, so good preparation for the journey is essential.
