Sightings of Antelopes and Predators
The unfenced area of the 2,500 km² Khutse Game Reserve, bordering the Central Kalahari Game Reserve to the north, combines the typical habitat types of the Kalahari, including hilly grasslands, fossil dunes, riverbeds, as well as grassy and barren pans.

Due to its proximity and relative accessibility to Botswana's capital, the reserve is a popular retreat for visitors and residents of Gaborone. During the approximately 240-kilometer drive, travellers pass through a series of interesting Kalahari villages, including Molepolole, known as the "Gateway to the Kalahari".
Within the reserve itself, numerous picturesque pans often attract wildlife, especially during and after good rainfall. Therefore, it's not surprising that Khutse translates to "where one kneels to drink." With some luck, fantastic wildlife sightings can be enjoyed on game drives, which typically focus on these pans, including Motailane, Moreswa, and Molose.
Highlights of Khutse Game Reserve:
- Rich biodiversity
- Picturesque scenery with numerous pans
- Opportunity for fantastic wildlife sightings, especially at the pans
- Adjacent to the famous Central Kalahari Game Reserve
- Relatively good accessibility from Gaborone
