Unwind yourself and become a ranger
When the routine of work feels stagnant, stress becomes overwhelming, and energy levels are almost depleted, opting for a sabbatical often emerges as a sensible choice.
This temporary break from professional life, which can last for several weeks to a year, provides new strength and allows time to finally focus on things that are often neglected.
Spending time with family, learning a new language, or volunteering - the possibilities for structuring a sabbatical are diverse
Field Guide Course in Africa
A ranger course in Africa combines a close connection to nature with education and broadening personal horizons. The offerings are diverse and allow participants to obtain an official certificate depending on the course.
Recognized by the Field Guides Association of Southern Africa (FGASA), this serves as a gateway to finding a job as a wildlife ranger in southern Africa. We would like to introduce three course options to you:
Professional Field Guide
Living and learning in the wilderness of southern Africa for a year is made possible through participation in the Professional Field Guide Course. During their training period, participants get to know various wilderness camps and, under the guidance of experienced guiding expertes, acquire in-depth knowledge about African nature and professional guiding.
During the second half of the course, students spend time as interns at a lodge, where they further develop their practical skills as field guides. Upon successfully completing all exams, the official FGASA certificate is awarded.
The Professional Field Guide Course in Africa - an outstanding learning and life experience amidst breathtaking natural landscapes!
Field Guide Level 1
The Field Guide Level 1 Course is somewhat like the younger sibling of the Professional Field Guide Course. Here too, participants live in one to three wilderness camps in southern Africa and engage in interactive theoretical classes combined with practical sessions in the unique natural environment.
After completing a final examination, participants can also obtain an official FGASA certificate in this course. With a duration of 55 days, the Field Guide Level 1 Course is suitable for those who prefer not to commit to a full year in the African wilderness.
Safari Guide Course
A real taster opportunity is offered by a training program for safari guides in South Africa or Kenya. While less intensive than the two career courses, this program still provides participants with a unique educational adventure.
For 28 days, you'll live together with an international team in camps close to nature, enjoying excellent instruction in both theory and practice, and learning to safely guide safari guests through the wilderness.
Sabbatical: A pathway to rest and guidance
No matter which course you choose, you'll immerse yourself deeply in pristine landscapes, living at the heart of nature and leaving everything else behind for a while.
You'll learn new things, meet new people and cultures, and live a life for a certain period that couldn't be more different from your usual routine. And who knows – perhaps afterward, you might even decide on a professional future as a field guide.
